Facts at a Glance An Endowment Supporting Local Women and Children
Mission: To empower women philanthropists by creating opportunities to fund programs that will develop the full potential of local women and children.
Organization: The Women’s Fund of Portage County is an endowment supporting local women and children, formed in 1997 by a collaborative partnership among the Community Foundation of Central Wisconsin, Ascension St. Michael’s Foundation and the Stevens Point Area YMCA Foundation. The organization is led by a volunteer board and committee members.
Giving: In 2019, the Women’s Fund allocated $57,922 to local agencies, including its two partners Ascension St. Michael’s Foundation and the Stevens Point Area YMCA Foundation, for more than 20 community programs. Of the amount, approximately half comes from the interest gained from our endowment and the other half from revenue generated from the two events we host every year, Spring Luncheon and A.R.T.S. Night. Over $600,000 has been awarded to more than 40 local agencies since 1997. Women in need of a hot meal, school children with food and clothing needs, safety projects at the Family Crisis Center, educational opportunities, and many more programs have benefited from the Women’s Fund.
Endowment: The 2012—2017 Spark the Legacy Campaign increased the endowment to over $700,000 with the generous support of 76 people who pledged $1,500 or more as well as many other donors at varying levels.
Our 20/20 Vision Campaign began on our 20th Anniversary in November 2017. The goal is to increase the endowment to $1 million by 12/31/2020 which will enable the Women’s Fund to award more funding to local women and children in need. The endowment is a Field of Interest Fund at the Community Foundation allowing it to grow and give for generations to come. Over the past ten years, the Women’s Fund has engaged more than 500 donors.
Events: A.R.T.S. Night (A Reason to Shop-Share-Socialize): This event raises nearly $30,000 every year through sales of local artists’ work, a silent auction, raffle and sponsorships. Over 300 people will enjoy this event every October. Save the Date: October 10, 2019
Spring Luncheon: This event is held annually in May to announce the year’s grant recipients as well as honor the SPARK Philanthropy award recipient.
